If I could teach students just one habit for English, it would be this:
Pause and ask: What does this suggest?
Before writing anything.
Too many students rush straight into answers. They copy quotes, name techniques, or retell the plot.
But the strongest responses begin with thinking.
- What is the key topic word in the question?
- What does this word suggest?
- Why has the writer chosen this image?
- What might the reader feel here?
That short pause often transforms writing from descriptive to analytical.
It also reduces panic in exams. Students who know how to think their way into a question feel far less stuck.
Revision isn’t only about memorising content. Often, it’s about building better habits of mind.
